This is the only kind of artificial intelligence that exists in the modern-day. They can mimic and outperform human beings in limited circumstances, excelling only in highly controlled environments with a limited set of parameters.

2. Artificial General Intelligence

Artificial General Intelligence means AI, which has a human-level cognitive function in a number of disciplines like language processing, visual processing, computational functioning, reasoning, etc. 

The programmers are still far away from developing an AGI system. For mimicking human reasoning, an AGI system needs to be composed of thousands of Artificial Narrow Intelligence systems working in combination and interacting with one another. 

Even with the most modern computing systems and infrastructures available, like Fujitsu’s K Computer or IBM’s Watson, it takes 40 minutes to mimic a single second of neuronal activity. This highlights the enormous complexity and human brain’s interconnection and also the immensity of the problem of creating an AGI with existing resources.

Many people consider Artificial Super Intelligence as the next obvious step after AGI. An Artificial Super Intelligence system can outperform all human skills, including making better art, building emotional relationships, and decision and rational decision making. 

If we achieve Artificial General Intelligence, AI systems will rapidly develop their skills and expand into the areas we could never have imagined. Whereas the gap between AGI and ASI is relatively small, the long trip ahead towards AGI itself makes this appear to be a concept that lies far into the future.
